Shooting in Montreal North, one hospitalized

A 35-year-old man had to be rushed to hospital after being shot in the upper body on Tuesday morning in Montreal.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Rolland Blvd., near Pierre Street, in the Montreal North borough.

Initially, the first people who contacted the 911 center reported a man who had been stabbed, but the first stages of the police investigation revealed that the victim had instead been hit by gunfire.

When they arrived on scene, police found the victim lying on the ground in the middle of Rolland Blvd.

The man, who was conscious at the time, was taken to hospital. Approximately two hours after the incident, Montreal Police (SPVM) reported that the victim’s life was out of danger.

“According to initial information obtained from witnesses, for a reason which is still unknown at the moment, a suspect allegedly fired in the direction of the victim and fled on foot before the arrival of the police,” said Véronique Dubuc, a spokesperson for the SPVM.

Montreal police investigators went to analyze the crime scene. A dog handler was also deployed to try to locate evidence.

A shell casing was notably located on the scene.

Witnesses to the event will also be met by investigators.
