Quebec provincial police (SQ) responded to a call to 911 at around 6:15 a.m. about an incident on Champlain Street.

According to police, an individual allegedly injured a school employee.

“A perimeter was set up and the premises were quickly secured so that no one could enter or leave the establishment without knowing the individual’s intentions,” the SQ stated in a press release.

Officers were able to locate and arrest a suspect, who was taken to hospital for treatment.

“He will be interviewed when his condition permits,” said the SQ.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The library will be closed for the time being. The study centers remain open, and classes and activities continue,” wrote CEGEP de Valleyfield on Facebook.

Other photos and videos posted on social media shows smoke coming from the college building, but authorities have not confirmed any more details.
