A man suspected of murdering a woman in Sainte-Catherine, south of Montreal, was declared unfit to stand trial on Tuesday.
Eric Biscotti, 55, has not been formally charged with the crime, but a treatment order was issues by the court for him.
His roommate, Linda Benoit, was found lifeless in an apartment on Oct. 6 at around 2 a.m. by police officers from the Régie intermunicipale de police Roussillon.
They had been called to a residence on Union Street in Sainte-Catherine.
Her body showed signs of violence and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital that same day.
Investigators from the SQ’s Crimes Against the Person Division had taken over the case, in close collaboration with Roussillon police.
Circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
If after treatment, the Biscotti is able to understand the nature of the actions he allegedly committed, then legal proceedings will continue.
He’s due back in court on Nov. 14.
