Suspected porch pirates arrested in Plateau: Montreal police

Montreal police (SPVM) arrested two individuals on Tuesday who are accused of stealing other people’s packages.

According to the SPVM, at the time of their arrest, the suspects had “numerous objects that they allegedly stole from a residential building on Saint-Grégoire Street in the Plateau-Mont-Royal.”

The suspects, a 29-year-old woman and 32-year-old man, were apprehended while trying to flee on foot into an alley.

Officers were tipped off by a local resident who had reported the suspicious behaviour.

“Some of the packages found in the suspects’ possession were still in their packaging with the postal label,” reads a press release. “These goods were returned to their rightful owners.”

The two suspects appeared in court and are facing charges of theft and receiving stolen property under $5,000. They were then released on conditions.

Police believe the duo may be responsible for a series of break-ins in the same area.

The SPVM is asking anyone with information to call 911 or their local police station – or contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514-393-1133 or via the reporting form available on infocrimemontreal.ca.
