A five-year-old boy died overnight in Coteau-du-Lac, in the Montérégie – and police are calling it a “suspicious death” for now.
There have been no arrests as of yet.
A call was made to 911 around 3 a.m. on Wednesday from a residence on Du Fleuve Street.
When Sûreté du Québec officers arrived at the home, they found the child unresponsive.
The boy was pronounced dead shortly afterwards in hospital and the cause of his death has not yet been established.
A security perimeter has been set up around the residence to allow investigators to analyze the scene.
Police believe a woman in her 20s, who was found in the home, made the 911 call. It’s still not clear what her relationship to the child is.
She will be interviewed by investigators in the coming hours.
