Unionized Quebec hotel workers: Three more tentative agreements

Three other tentative agreements have recently been reached to renew collective agreements, as part of the coordinated negotiations in the hotel industry led by the Fédération du commerce, affiliated with the CSN.

Union members at these three other hotels must vote on the tentative agreement in the coming days. They are those at the Embassy hotel in Pointe-Claire, the Marriott Château Champlain in Montreal and the Bonaventure hotel in Montreal.

In the case of the Bonaventure and Château Champlain hotels, union members were on an unlimited general strike.

This now brings to eight the total number of hotels where an agreement has been reached to renew the collective agreement, out of a potential 30, in the regions of Montreal, Quebec, Saguenay and Estrie.

As part of this coordinated negotiation, the unions are consulting each other and presenting common demands to their respective employers. The union federation is seeking to obtain an initial settlement, then is attempting to replicate its provisions with other hotels, even if they are different employers.

The settlement that was reached, common to all these hotels, provides for salary increases of 21 per cent over four years, including 10 per cent in the first year.

It includes an increase in the employer contribution to group insurance, as well as improvements to vacations.
