Vehicle plunges into river between Montreal and Laval

Searches are underway to find the occupant or occupants of a vehicle that plunged into the waters of the Rivière des Prairies between Montreal and Laval.

Police received a 911 call around 4:50 a.m. Sunday morning about a vehicle that plunged into the river in Ahuntsic at the level of Maurice-Richard Park.

“The vehicle is completely submerged,” SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc said. “According to witnesses, a man was observed in the water near the vehicle in question.

“An operation is underway to find this person and find out if one or more occupants were inside during the event.”

Members of the Tactical Intervention Group (GTI) and divers from the SPVM were called to the scene. Teams from the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) and the Canadian Coast Guard were also called in for reinforcements.

“The causes surrounding this event remain to be determined,” said Dubuc.

The operation is ongoing.
