16 arrested as SQ spearheads crackdown on contraband cannabis in Montérégie

A total of 16 men ages 27 to 60 were arrested Tuesday morning by a police task force assigned to stem the production and sale of illegal cannabis in the Montérégie region.

The Sûreté du Québec in concert with the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police department, the Régie intermunicipale de police de Richelieu-Saint-Laurent and the Longueuil police department executed warrants in Brossard, Carignan, Chambly, Napierville, Saint-Alexandre d’Iberville, Saint-Constant and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

All of the suspects are to be questioned by police and nine of them are expected to appear in court via video conference to face charges in connection with the production and sale of contraband cannabis as well as other drug-related offences.
