Animal Rescue joined by construction workers in bid to coax a deer off West Island REM tracks

A deer is stuck on the unopened REM tracks between Pointe-Claire and Kirkland, an REM spokesperson confirmed to the The Gazette Friday.

Construction workers are working with Animal Rescue and a veterinarian in an effort to gently coax the deer westward toward a natural area, spokesperson Francis Labbé said.

“You don’t want to scare the animal more than you need to,” he said.

The deer wasn’t in any danger, Labbé said.

“There wasn’t any testing today.”

The tracks were empty and the overhead wires were not electrified.

He said REM officials were unsure how the deer ended up on the tracks.
