Blaming everything on immigrants is a ‘false debate’ | The Corner Booth

There’s no doubt that immigration is a hot-button issue in Canada.

But according to Marc Miller, Canadians and the politicians who represent them have relatively moderate views on the subject, especially when compared to other countries like the U.S.

“There’s people that are flirting with and playing footsie with some extremist views, but there’s no outwardly anti-immigrant major [federal] party in Canada. Which I think is something we should be proud of,” Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship told hosts Bill Brownstein and Aaron Rand in this latest episode of The Corner Booth.

Miller, who is the MP representing the Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs riding in Montreal, said that while some concerns around immigration are valid, it’s critical not to play the blame-game.

“The question is looking at what that volume does, in immigration, and what the impact is, but not blaming everything on immigrants because it’s a false debate, and it’s usually weaponized for political purposes.”
