A business in the borough of St-Léonard was the target of suspected arson overnight Saturday.
Police responding to a 911 call at about 3:25 a.m. Sunday found a window of the Rockaberry café on Jean-Talon St. E. been broken and they located an incendiary object inside.
The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters and the sprinkler system activated in the café, said police spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier, and damage was minor: More damage was caused by water than by the fire, she said.
There were no injuries reported, Gauthier said. The incident is being investigated by the arson squad, as is a suspicious fire in Pointe St-Charles early Saturday morning that caused major damage to a bar-restaurant on Wellington St., near Charon St.
The establishment was targeted twice on two consecutive nights, Gauther said. In the first, a window was broken when an incendiary device was tossed through it overnight Thursday, but no fire started, she said.
Then at about 5:45 a.m. Saturday, another device was thrown into the establishment through the front door. This time, a fire started and it caused major damage, Gauthier said. No injuries were reported in either incident, both of which are under investigation.
Despite similarities in the fires in St-Léonard and Pointe St-Charles, it’s too early to make a link between them, she said.
