The city of Montreal announced Friday that it has closed twin bridges that connect Gouin Blvd. with Highway 13 in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough following an inspection that revealed cracks in the structures had worsened.

In a release, the city said the twin bridges on Pitfield Blvd., on either side of the highway, will be closed “for an indefinite period” between Thimens St. and Gouin and detours will be arranged. The city is directing traffic wanting to go between Gouin Blvd. and Highway 13 to detour via Sunnybrooke Blvd. and Highway 40.

“This preventive closure follows a general inspection which highlighted an evolution of the cracks present on the two structures. Additional investigations will be carried out over the coming days to analyze the options and preferred scenarios,” the city wrote.

“A police presence will be deployed on the marked detour route to ensure compliance with the bans in force on the two bridges. The mobility squad will also be present on the ground to facilitate travel and ensure the fluidity of traffic in this sector.”
