A 50-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for murder died at the Archambault Institution on Thursday, according to Correctional Service Canada.

In a release, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said Sebastien Boisvert “died while in our custody,” but they did not include any information about the cause of death. They also said that the provincial coroner and police have been notified.

“At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on Oct. 5, 2005, for second-degree murder,” CSC wrote. “The person’s next of kin have been notified. ”

Boisvert began serving his life sentence after he pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Gaétan Fournier, a man he stabbed 28 times at a rooming house in Victoriaville during 2002.

When Boisvert was sentenced at the Victoriaville courthouse his period of parole ineligibility was set at 17 years.

The Archambault Institution is a federal penitentiary in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, located about 40 kilometres north of Montreal.
