Montreal police are investigating two suspicious car fires overnight Saturday to Sunday, an incendiary device tossed into a business in a Plateau Mont-Royal business and at least one projectile impact found in the glass window of a bar in LaSalle.

At about 12:45 a.m., a fire caused major damage to an SUV parked in a driveway on Small St. near St-Louis St. in the borough of St-Laurent. No incendiary object was found, but there is reason to believe arson was involved, said Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, and the case was transferred to the arson squad.

A few hours later, at about 4:45 a.m., there was a fire in an SUV parked in the entrance to a private residence on Elm Ave., near Holton Ave., in Westmount. For now, no incendiary object has been found, but the vehicle was a total loss, Brabant said, and the case has been transferred to the arson squad to determine the circumstances of the event. There was no damage to the property.

At about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, an incendiary object was thrown into the entrance of a business on St-André St. and Roy St. in Plateau Mont-Royal. There was minor damage to the door and no one was injured, Brabant said. The case was transferred to the arson squad and investigators were onsite Sunday morning.

At least one projectile impact was found in the window of a bar on Dollard Ave. in the borough of LaSalle as well as a bullet casing on the ground in front of the bar, Brabant said. There were no injuries.

It is not known precisely when the gunshots were fired, Brabant said. Dollard was closed southbound on Sunday morning between Réjeanne St. and Lithuania St., he said, and police investigators and crime-scene technicians were at the site Sunday morning to go door-to-door and view video surveillance tapes in a bid to analyze and understand the circumstances of the event.
