The Laval police have arrested four teenagers in connection with threats that caused two local high schools to be locked down in recent weeks.

Police say Poly-Jeunesse and Curé-Antoine-Labelle high schools were the targets of threatening calls on three occasions over the last nine days.

“The threats turned out to be hoaxes, but had to be taken seriously by the authorities and resulted in a large-scale police deployment,” the force said in a statement Thursday.

The police department said it was forced to confine thousands of students during the lockdowns to carry out safety checks and ensure there were no real threats.

Investigators quickly identified the four youths behind the threats, police said, and the teens could face charges of mischief. All four attended one of the schools in question.

“The investigation is still underway, however, and further arrests and searches cannot be ruled out,” police said. “The police service is also aware that this type of call can cause concern among the public and engender a feeling of insecurity.”

Anyone with information about the threats can call the Info-Police line at 450-662-INFO (4636) or dial 911 and mention the file number LVL-240326-027.
