A 23-year-old man was shot in the upper body in Lachine early Saturday morning, Montreal police said.

The victim’s injuries — which, according to preliminary information, were the result of a conflict that degenerated between him and one or more suspects — are not life-threatening.

SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said the force received a call at around 5:30 a.m. reporting gunshots and a person laying on the ground on Camille St. near Richmond St. with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

When officers arrived on scene, no victims or suspects were found. The victim checked himself into a hospital at around 5:45 a.m., Chèvrefils said.

A crime scene was erected so technicians can analyze the area to better understand the circumstances surrounding the events. The force’s canine unit was deployed in an effort to help locate evidence, and police plan to look over nearby surveillance footage.

The investigation is ongoing.
