A man in his 60s was taken to a hospital with upper body injuries after being stabbed near the Lionel-Groulx métro station Thursday morning.

Montreal police received a call about the incident at around 10 a.m.

There is no danger for the victim’s life, the force said.

According to preliminary information, a conflict broke out and escalated between the suspect and victim. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Investigators were still on site at noon to better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and attempt to locate the suspect, with support from the canine unit.

Atwater Ave. was closed to traffic between St-Jacques St. and Notre-Dame St.

The intervention resulted in the detour of some of the Société de transport de Montréal’s bus lines in the area, but the Lionel-Groulx métro remained operational. Affected bus lines are the following: 101, 108, 190, 211, 405, 411, 425, 485, 491, 496 and 747.

The STM sent operations managers to the site to help both customers and traffic, the agency said.
