Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is advising vulnerable people not to consume Roquefort Ile de France cheese from certain stores because retail labels do not specify the product is made with raw milk.
The products in question were sold in clear plastic wrap until Aug. 2 at Metro, Adonis, Marché Richelieu and Marché Ami stores in Quebec.
Vulnerable people include those who are pregnant or have weakened immune systems as well as children and the elderly. They’re advised to either return the product to the store, use it in a cooked dish reaching a temperature of at least 74 C, or throw it out.
The retailers, MAPAQ and the city of Montreal’s food inspection division are issuing the warning as a precautionary measure; no cases of illness have been reported to date.
