A 27-year-old man is in a hospital with “significant head injuries” after he was struck by one of two cars racing through the city’s Mercier district Thursday morning, Montreal police said. The man is no longer considered to be in danger.

Neither the vehicle that struck the victim nor the one it was racing remained at the scene, police say. Investigators are treating the incident as a hit and run. Police said the victim was riding an electric unicycle at the time of incident.

Police have yet to arrest the drivers. A police spokesperson declined to say what information police have, saying it could interfere with the investigation.

The man was conscious when taken to a hospital.

The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on de l’Assomption Blvd. near de Marseilles St.
