Montreal dragged into Drake-Kendrick Lamar rap beef

Article content

Drake, who has previously called Montreal his “second home” and complained about the dearth of bras tossed his way by a Bell Centre crowd, would like you to know he has connections in this city.

That is but one of the many takeaways from “The Heart Part 6,” which he put out over the weekend as part of his ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar.

We are not going to go through the full (exhaustive, exhausting) backstory of their beef here, and instead cut straight to the line in question: “My Montreal connects stand up, not fall down/The ones that you’re gettin’ your stories from, they all clowns.”

Regarding the “gettin’ your stories” of it all, Kendrick had suggested on previous diss track “6:16 in LA,” that he had sources inside Drake’s camp who were providing him with information. (What information? Well, subsequent diss track “Meet the Grahams” includes the insinuation that Drake has a secret daughter.)

But who are Drake’s “Montreal connects?”

Look, we don’t know and it’s 50/50 whether he even does, but since we’re here we might as well do a one-paragraph summary of the man’s various Hells Angels allusions: In a 2018 Instagram post by fellow rapper Travis Scott, the Canadian was seen wearing a Hells Angels hoodie. Fans have suggested one of the figures in his recent music video for “Family Matters” (also a Kendrick diss, there are so many of them) previously operated a store that sold licensed Hells Angels merchandise.

Anyhow, at the rate this beef is going, we’ll probably have Kendrick doing internal rhymes involving Boustan by the end of the day.
