Montreal police will set up a command post and go door-to-door Saturday afternoon in the Montreal North borough in an effort to collect more information about a homicide that dates back two years and remains unsolved.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2022, Jayson Colin, 26, was shot outside Lester B. Pearson High School on de Charny St., near the intersection of P.-M.-Favier Ave., while he was standing near three other people. His death came as a shock to many as Colin was involved with helping youth in Montreal North.

On Friday, in a release, Montreal police said there are using the two-year anniversary of Colin’s death to ask for help from the public. The command post will be set up near the intersection where the school is located between 12 and 5 p.m.

“Anyone with information that has not yet been shared with police is encouraged to take the opportunity to do so. Investigators will be on site to interact with the population. Door-to-door canvassing will also be done in the neighbourhood,” Montreal police said.

“Two armed suspects opened fire in the direction (of Colin and the other men) before fleeing. Once on the scene, the police discovered (Colin) seriously injured by gunshots. Projectile impacts on parked vehicles and shell casings on the ground were also located. The victim was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries. This was the 19th murder to occur on the island of Montreal in 2022. Another man was injured during the same event.

“People preferring to transmit new information related to this homicide, anonymously and confidentially, can do so by contacting Info-Crime Montréal at 514 393-1133 or via the report form available on the infocrimemontreal.ca website.”
