Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Montreal area.

In its earlier forecast, the agency predicted a cloudy, rainy morning with possible thunderstorms from about 12 to 8 p.m.

“Be prepared for severe weather,” the weather alert reads. “Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”

Temperatures are expected to reach 23 C on Friday, or 28 C with the humidex.

The agency is forecasting similar weather for Saturday — mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers in the morning and thunderstorms in the afternoon — but with a high of 20 C.

There’s a 60 per cent chance of rain on Sunday.

If you’re planning on hitting the city for Grand Prix weekend, don’t forget to pack your umbrella.
