Montreal’s heat wave extended into the weekend

The heat wave crushing Montreal for the past 48 hours is now expected to last into the weekend, Environment Canada announced early Tuesday.

In a special weather statement issued at 5:23 a.m., the federal agency forecast that humidex vales of 35 to 39 degrees are expected Tuesday afternoon.

“Despite a brief break in the heat Wednesday due to showers, the heat will return on Thursday with humidex values of near 40. Heat and humidity may persist through Saturday. The nights will remain warm with lows of 18 degrees Celsius or higher.”

Quebec health authorities warn that one’s health can rapidly deteriorate during of extreme heat. The public is advised to protect itself by drinking 6 to 8 glases of water a day, before feeling thirsty, to spend at least spend at least 2 hours a day in an air conditioned or cool place, to limit physical activities and wear light clothes.
