A 75-year-old male pedestrian died early Sunday in Brossard after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man, a Longueuil police spokesperson said Sunday.

The event took place at about 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Du Quartier Blvd. and Lancaster St. in the South Shore community.

A suspect has been arrested and could face charges of dangerous driving causing death, police said. He was to be met Sunday by investigators.

Speed could have been a factor, a Longueuil police spokesperson said in a social media post.

A security perimeter has been erected and experts in collision reconstitution and investigators were expected at the scene to determine the causes and circumstances of the event.

The westbound section of Du Quartier Blvd. between des Prairies Rd. and Lancaster St. is closed and police have advised the public to avoid the area.
