Asked to comment on François Legault’s view of systemic racism in Quebec, Sophie Fouron didn’t mince words.
“It’s awful,” she told hosts Bill Brownstein and Aaron Rand on this week’s episode of The Corner Booth.
“It’s insulting to the people who are living with racism daily. I think to improve a situation, you have to acknowledge it, you have to talk about it. The courts are saying it exists, the chief of police is saying it exists. I don’t know why the premier doesn’t want to say that it exists. It exists everywhere,” said Fouron, TV personality and current host of Chassés-croisés on TV5.
Despite the pervasiveness of issues like racial profiling, or her own encounters with racism — including assumptions about being the nanny to her own children — Fouron has “hope in the next generation.”
“I think the kids today are open to the world, with social media. Even if they’re in La Tuque or Val D’Or or Hampstead or what have you, they have access to the world and the hues of life.”
