Laval police said on Friday they had arrested a 14-year-old suspect in connection with multiple cases of threats being transmitted to local schools.

“Over the past few days many establishments received threatening calls which resulted in precautionary lockdowns in certain schools,” the police force said in a communiqué. “While these threats were unfounded, Laval police, the Centre de service scolaire de Laval and other partners worked in concert to ensure that the population’s security was not compromised.”

Police said the suspect was arrested at his family’s home on Thursday and search warrants were executed. The suspect was questioned by police and then appeared in Youth Court to face charges of uttering threats, mischief and violating court ordered conditions.

The suspect will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Oct. 21.

Police said their investigation is continuing and reminded parents that anyone over the age of 12 can face criminal charges if they abuse the 911 emergency system or trigger a police investigation with false information.

Anyone with any information that can further the current investigation is urged to call the Laval police tip line at 450-662-4636 or 911 and mention file LVL-241016-023.
