Dozens of pro-Palestine protesters clashed with Montreal police Wednesday afternoon inside the Guy-Concordia métro station.

Protesters were throwing paper and at least one drink at police.

At one point police were surrounded by protesters and retreated into a room in the station before coming out and arresting several people. Police said they were being arrested for mischief.

Protesters chanted “shame, shame” as police handcuffed several people inside the métro station.

Police closed the tunnel linking the métro station to Concordia University as a precaution.

Other protesters blocked de Maisonneuve Blvd. in front of the university, marching and chanting “Free, free Palestine”.

Concordia shut down access to its building on the downtown campus shortly after 2 p.m.

Protests in support of the Palestinian people were planned for several universities across the country Wednesday afternoon.
