A pro-Palestinian encampment on the campus of Université Laval was dismantled Saturday night by the demonstrators themselves after Quebec City police intervened.
Police had observed about 30 demonstrators attempting to join a wave of campus protestors by setting up tents on the grounds of the Quebec City university, near Ste-Foy Rd. and du Séminaire Ave., on Saturday according to a news release from Quebec City police.

Police asked them to take down their encampment, explained to them that Article 19.1 of municipal regulation 1091 stipulates that the erection of a tent or any other construction or device that could serve as a shelter is prohibited without prior written authorization from an appropriate authority.
The demonstrators decided themselves to dismantle the encampment themselves, police said. “Nevertheless, the group was able to continue to demonstrate, as stipulated by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
Three citations were given to the demonstrators during the police intervention and “to prevent a recurrence,” one of the demonstrators was detained.
Overnight surveillance on the grounds of the university was in place to prevent the installation of any more tents.
The Laval students were attempting to join a wave of similar protests at McGill University, the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) ad schools elsewhere in North America and Europe.
Protesters who erected a pro-Palestinian encampment May 12 at UQAM have said they will leave the grounds by June 6 now that the university has adopted a resolution meeting most of their demands. The protesters wanted the school to end ties with Israeli institutions. The university maintained that its foundation had no investments in weapons makers or agreements with Israeli universities.
