The RCMP announced on Friday they had arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the seizure on Thursday of a homemade firearm and a “significant quantity” of 3D printers.
Pascal Tribout, of St-Joseph-du-Lac, is also alleged to have made hateful comments against the Jewish community in a public forum on the social network Telegram, a criminal offence. The RCMP alleges further that Tribout “possessed and shared computer data that could be used to manufacture firearms with a 3D printer, which is also illegal.”
Police said Tribout faces several charges including weapons trafficking, possession of a prohibited firearm and wilful promotion of hatred.
Tribout remains in custody pending his next court appearance and further charges against him are possible, the RCMP said.
The arrest comes at a time of heightened tensions and global outrage, including protests and encampments, over the Israel-Hamas war.
