Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) workers launched a surprise walkout at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Negotiators from the SAQ and the CSN-affiliated union were at the table today, a CSN representative told The Gazette. But the union was “unsatisfied with the way negotiations were unfolding,” and ordered the strike while still at the table.

Union members also conducted a walkout Thursday of 5,000 workers, which it had announced ahead of time. As of Friday, it has used four of its 15 banked strike days, having used two in April.

“Surprise!” the CSN wrote on Facebook. “A reminder to the employer: We still have more strike days in our pocket.”

The CSN representative said negotiations continue and union members will return to work Saturday.

The SAQ said its stores returned to normal operating hours on Saturday.

The walkout comes the same day as a judge signed off on an injunction request from the SAQ that, among other things, will prohibit striking workers from blocking SAQ entrances and exits.
