A 15-year-old pedestrian who was struck by an SUV on the evening of Aug. 28 while crossing the street in the borough of Anjou has died, Montreal police said Monday.
The teen died on Aug. 30, but police only learned of his death on Monday.
He was unconscious and in critical condition in a hospital after being hit as he crossed Louis-H.-La Fontaine Blvd. at a pedestrian crossing at the corner of Metropolitan Blvd. around 8 p.m. The 38-year-old driver of the SUV, who was heading north along Louis-H.-La Fontaine Blvd., was not injured.
It was the 16th fatal collision of the year in Montreal, said police spokesperson Manuel Couture. Ten of the 16 people who have died were pedestrians.
A police investigation into the circumstances of the latest death is underway, Couture said. It will determine, among other things, whether speed could have been a factor and whether charges could be laid. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor, said police.
