Longueuil police on Friday announced they had arrested three men and seized two handguns in connection with a series of gunfire incidents that had plagued a local neighbourhood for the past month.

The arrests took place around noon Thursday during a surveillance operation around Louise St., the site of several gunfire incidents since the start of May.

The three suspects, all of whom have criminal records, tried to flee police but were quickly tracked down and arrested.

The trio were then questioned by investigators and may face charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, police said.
