Three men were in hospital with in serious condition with bullet wounds early Monday after being shot during an exchange of gunfire with other suspects and Montreal police Sunday night in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

The incident began at about 8 p.m., when Montreal police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting as many as 40 shots had been fired at the intersection of De Salaberry Blvd. and Davignon St. in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

Officers arriving at the scene eventually found themselves under fire from suspects that had already been shooting at each other.

The Montreal police response to the incident is now being probed by Quebec’s office of independent investigations (BEI) while the Sûreté du Québec has set up a command post at the site as part of its criminal investigation into the shootings themselves.
