Two men in their 20s were sent to hospital Wednesday night with stab wounds after a brawl involving multiple suspects broke out in the Cartier métro in Laval.

Police spokesperson Stéphanie Beshara said the fight broke out at 7:15 p.m. between the station’s entrance and the platform and the suspects had fled by the time police arrived.

Beshara said the motive for the fight had yet to be determined but the incident had been captured on the station’s video surveillance cameras.

The men were in serious condition when they were sent to hospital. Despite the gravity of their injuries, the victims, 22 and 20, are expected to survive their wounds.

A police perimeter remained in place at the station Thursday morning but was expected to lifted before the morning rush hour.
