Montreal police are investigating after the body of a man was found Monday afternoon in Angrignon Park near Trinitaires Blvd. in the city’s southwest borough.

A 911 call was made shortly before 2 p.m. regarding a dead body found in the park. Police arrived on the scene with paramedics and located the body on the ground near the park’s 1.1-kilometre lake.

The scene was protected throughout the afternoon as investigators interviewed witnesses and worked to understand the circumstances surrounding the death. Police said Monday evening they believe the death was accidental.

“No criminal element is linked to the death,” police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Braband said, adding that an autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.

The victim was 36 years old, police said; his identity has not yet been confirmed and the cause of death has not yet been established, they said.

It was not clear Monday how long the victim’s body had been in the park, although there are unconfirmed reports that he had attended a gathering with friends in the park Sunday evening and was reported missing on Monday, Dorelas said.
