Weekend traffic Oct. 18-21, 2024: Ville-Marie Expressway closed eastbound

Article content

Access to downtown will be more complicated than usual this weekend, as the Ville-Marie Expressway (Route 136) will be completely closed eastbound for the entire weekend.

Route 136

The highway will be closed eastbound between the Turcot Interchange and the entrance from de la Cathédrale St., from 11:59 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, as a major drain is relocated and repairs are conducted on a slab. The recommended detour is via the Bonaventure Expressway (Highway 10). Another such closure will be required later this fall.

Route 132

The highway and Marie-Victorin Blvd. service road will be completely closed eastbound underneath the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge in Brossard, between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, for repair work on an overpass. Access to the bridge from Route 132 eastbound/Highway 15 northbound will be maintained, but access to Route 132/Highway 20 eastbound from the bridge will be closed.

The ramp from Route 132/Highway 20 westbound toward the bridge will be closed during this time, as this is the overpass being repaired. Detours will be marked. Traffic is recommended to take Highway 30 to get to and from the bridge, or use public transit.

Highway 40

Work on the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge connecting Montreal Island with Terrebonne begins Sunday night, and will continue over the next three months. Lanes will be closed overnights between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. weekdays, and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends, with traffic in one direction using a contraflow lane on the other side of the highway. Access to and from Montée des Pionniers westbound will be closed during these times.

Continuing disruptions

  • Métro: The discovery of a structural issue has forced the closure of the St-Michel station on the Blue Line until further notice. A bus, Line 809, shuttles users between Jean-Talon and d’Iberville stations during the métro’s opening hours.
  • Highway 10: The access to Highway 10 West (Bonaventure Expressway) from Nuns’ Island is closed until the end of November.
  • Highway 15: In Candiac, the ramps from Highway 15 North to Highway 930 West and from Highways 15 South to 930 East are closed until November, and lanes are narrowed on both highways through the interchange.

  • Highway 40: The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge is down to three lanes — one in each direction, and one lane that switches directions on weekdays. During weekends, the extra lane is for traffic to Vaudreuil-Dorion.

    • The westbound service road is closed between Ness and Griffith Sts. until next week, and the eastbound one between Merizzi and Hickmore Sts. for about two weeks. The ramp from Hickmore to Highway 520 east will be closed from Oct. 23 for about a week. Hickmore St. itself remains closed under the highway, and a free shuttle is available 24/7 to carry pedestrians and cyclists across the highway.
    • Lanes are closed at 43rd Ave. until December.
  • St-Antoine St.: In the Sud-Ouest, the street is closed between du Couvent St. and Rose-de-Lima St., and traffic is reversed to go eastbound between Rose-de-Lima and Atwater Ave.
  • Pie-IX Blvd.: Work to extend the SRB Pie-IX south means only one lane is open in each direction between Pierre-de-Coubertin Ave. and Notre-Dame St. Cross-streets between de Rouen and Ste-Catherine Sts. are closed at Pie-IX.
  • St-Urbain St.: The overpass over the Ville-Marie Expressway is closed for a long renovation, until the end of 2026. Pedestrian access is maintained.
