An 80-year-old woman was in critical condition Thursday after her 83-year-old husband accidentally ran over her twice on Thursday morning, Montreal police said.

The incident occurred at about 11:15 a.m. in an underground parking lot of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Montréal in downtown Montreal.

For an unknown reason, the woman fell onto the pavement.

Not realizing she had fallen, the husband backed up over her. After feeling a bump, he drove forward, running over her again before parking.

He only discovered what had happened after he parked the car and left the vehicle, police said.

The woman suffered several injuries and was in hospital, listed in critical condition.
