Woman’s body discovered inside apartment in Ste-Catherine

The body of a woman was discovered early Sunday in an apartment in Ste-Catherine, in Quebec’s Montérégie region.

Police officers from the Régie intermunicipale de police Roussillon, which serves several South Shore communities, including Ste-Catherine, were called at 2 a.m. and, on arriving, discovered the body.

Because the woman’s death is considered suspicious, its investigation was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said SQ spokesperson Hugues Beaulieu.

A suspect was arrested and taken to hospital. Media reports said he would be met by police “when his state of health permitted,” but he would not say why the suspect was admitted to hospital — other than he needed care.

Beaulieu also wouldn’t elaborate on the cause of the woman’s death. “All the hypotheses are being examined,” he said.

Media reports said the woman’s body bore traces of violence.

A perimeter was set up and investigators with the SQ’s division of crimes against the person, accompanied by the canine unit and a forensic identification technician, were on hand.
